Hospital stayPatients are generally admitted one day prior to the intervention. After a consultation, physical examination and detailed information concerning the intervention, any examinations required in preparation for the anesthetic are performed (ECG, lung X-ray, laboratory tests), followed by a consultation with the anesthetist. In the evening after the operation, sips of tea can be drunk and intake of light food is possible the following day. Mobilisation also takes place on the first day post-operatively. Five days post-operatively, an X-ray is made to rule out anastomotic leakage (link between bladder and urethra), after which, as a rule, the urinary catheter can be removed. In the absence of complications, the patient can be discharged on sixth or seventh day after the intervention without a catheter.
