Endoscopic extraperitoneal radical prostatovesiculectomy
Fig. 1 ©Mondry,Stolzenburg Endoscopic extraperitoneal radical prostatovesiculectomy (EERPE) is a relatively new, minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of locally restricted prostate cancer. This method, which we have performed with success for over three years in more than 400 patients, has now largely superseded open radical prostatectomy. The individual steps of the intervention resemble those of the open approach (retropubic descending radical prostatovesiculectomy), no lower abdominal incision, however, being required due to the minimally invasive technique, resulting in a reduction of the average hospital stay by half. Post-operative pain is also significantly less. A further advantage is the optimized possibility of preserving the neurovascular bundle, which is of primary importance for preserving erectile function.
