Duration of hospital stayThe patient is admitted to the ward one day prior to the intervention. After being examined he is informed in detail about the procedure. This is followed by a consultation with the anesthetist. The total hospital stay amounts to 3-5 days. Once voiding returns to normal, the suprapubic catheter is removed before the patient is discharged. If voiding continues to be impaired as a result of prostate swelling, the patient is instructed how to use the suprapubic catheter and discharged with it in situ. As a rule, the catheter can be removed a few days later by the patient’s own urologist.
